| Katrina aid for D2A members? |
|
|
|
I've seen some comments about Swarm but nothing definite. Are there any D2A members suffering with Katrina? Is there anything we can do for our D2A family members that are in need, if there are any?
can we make some donations to the D2A paypal account and comment them as "aid" or something and have them dispersed to swarm or whomever else may need a little cash to buy water or food?
anyone have any idess/suggestions/hard informtion?

I've been down there on Aid missions with my fire department. It's not good down there. Any help they can get would be great.
DON'T Donate Clothes, Food, or anything like that. Contact the Red Cross and Donate cash. They can get more with cash, then what you could provide in food and clothes.

Demine0 is right on this one guys. By the time it takes to transport donated clothing and food, its either too late, cant make it to the right spots in time, or costs more than it helps to transport. Cash to the Red Cross allows them to purchase WHAT they need, WHERE and WHEN they need it!
Here is a link to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Donation page:

yeh, I already made my donations to the red cross.
I was thinking something more personal as in taking care of our own. If Swarm for instance needs to buy bottled watter, I'll toss $50 into his paypal account so he can get some.
that kind of thing

With Swarm offline (power out, house/comp gone, whatever) then he can't access his paypal account. It is frustrating but there is no way to help one individual without a personal messenger taking the goods/money to him.
Equally frustrating for me is that I'm a FEMA certified disaster relief worker/instructor as well as a federal cop. My brother officers in New Orleans have been stuck there protecting facilities from looters and are suffering from lack of resources as well. And working while worrying about their own families on top of that. I'd be there if I could but we can't strip my office any more than it has been to send me.
So donate to those agencies that are helping and take comfort that you are doing your part in getting the relief and recovery effort moving.

Yeah, there's a big feeling of helplessness for the rest of us. My wife and I have donated already, but you want to do something else. For those of you who are HAM radio operators, I know they're looking for volunteers to help with the communication (everything from cell to harlines seems to be down there).
You could always go and donate blood. That's a good thing to do at all times of the year.
But money's probably the best thing. Work a few hours overtime and donate that cash to the Red Cross or something.
