Ground Support Certification: 2 points well spent.
What is Ground Support?
Ground Support gives you access to the Advanced Mobile Station. (AMS) What is an AMS?
The AMS is a mobile spawnroom. It allows nearby troops to respawn there. It is also action-packed with TWO equipment terminals and a matrixing panel. There are limitations to the equipment terminals though. They allow access to Standard, Agile, REXO and Infiltration Armor and any of the weapons availible for infantry. This means that you can NOT get MAX armor here. The main advantage of an AMS is that when it deploys, it creates a cloaking field making itself and the troops within the field invisible.
What are some AMS tactics and strategies that one can employ?
1) "Foot Zerging" This is the most common use for the AMS. Basically, you park an AMS near an objective and continually send in waves of infantry. It is very important that the AMS is deployed OUT OF SIGHT of any enemies. This will keep the enemy from seeing your troops "materialize" as they leave the cloaking field and thus keeping the location of the AMS a secret. Another way to use an AMS for Foot Zerging is to hug it against a doorway, giving your enemies less time to refortify after each wave of attack. The danger to this is that your enemy knows where the AMS is at and can hit it with Anti-Vehicular and Orbital Strikes.
2) "Leap-Frogging" One of my favorite ways to use the AMS. The first step of this is to deploy an AMS in the courtyard of a base you control. Go to the Matrixing Panel on the vehicle and bind yourself to it. Park it as close to the vehicle creation pad as you can, but make sure it is UNDER a catwalk. This keeps enemy commanders and Liberations from getting direct hits from above with bombs and orbital strikes. Now, wait the allotted time and pull out another AMS and drive it to a location near a battle but still out of sight of the enemy. This is where it gets fun. If you are a basic trooper, jump into the action and go kill some enemies. If you have the points to take Combat Engineer (CE) you'll have even more fun with this. Fill up with ACE's. Set up a perimeter WITHIN the cloaking field with a few mines and a couple spitfire turrets. Afterall, you dont want your AMS being Jacked by an infiltrator. Now fill your inventory with ACE's and start hiding motion detectors around the outlying terrain. Place a couple well hidden Spitfires and lay mines in places where you think the enemy will take cover from the Spitfires. Keep working your way towards the enemy. When you die, respawn back at the AMS you bound yourself to and pull another AMS. Hopefully, you've placed a few motion sensors in some good spots. This is important because you need to keep your new AMS out of view of the enemy. The idea here is to work your way around a flank. Choose a side and take your new vehicle that direction, find a good hiding place for it and set up some CE. Rinse and Repeat. Keep moving your new AMS further and further around the enemy's flank. The trick here is you are giving unseen commands to your troops that will be followed more rigidly than any command given by a CR5. You are dictating where your troops will spawn and will slowly outflank your enemy, getting past their fortified locations and outmaneuvering their Armor Companies. When you die, your AMS will "lose it's owner" and "deconstruct in 15mins". This forces your troops to spawn at your NEW AMS and "Leap-Frogs" your troops forward and around the enemy.
3) "Ghost Spawn" This is just plain awesome. The first step is to get your entire outfit to Bind themselves to your AMS and then continue on with their business. Your job is to drive the AMS BEHIND the enemy and deploy it. Once deployed, have your troops spawn there and gather up. STAY INSIDE the cloaking field until everyone is assembled. You dont want to give away your location yet. When you are ready, launch an assault from your new direction. You will catch stragglers from other outfits that spawn there and run, but if you are organized well enough, you'll get your platoon assembled before your location is given away. Another way to use this is to provide advance preperation for a hack. Have your outfit Bind to the AMS but instead, this time, load it up into a LodeStar. Wait until you've almost completed a hack and start flying it HIGH and OUT OF THE WAY until you are hovering over your next base or a tower within that base's Sphere of Influence. As soon as the link to hack is about to be established AirDrop the AMS down and have your entire outfit respawn there. This allows you to surprise the enemy by setting up an attack front or even establishing a spawn WITHIN their courtyard. It is alot more maneuverable than rolling armor towards your intended target and alot less expected than a Galaxy Drop AND it gives you a respawn location when you die!
Hopefully I've given some ideas and possibly a worthwhile tutorial to new players and old alike. Enjoy and Death 2 All!
